The unwholesome activities of the outlawed secret cult societies are becoming increasingly frightening and deadly as their members now seemingly operate with reckless abandon.

Members of these deadly groups carry out their nefarious activities throughout the state, leaving death, blood, sorrow, and tears on their trails.

Only a few days ago, a young, vibrant, and promising young man of about 38 years, Mr. Ernest Irabor was, on Monday night, brutally attacked in his home in Benin City by two armed men suspected to members of the notorious ‘Black Axe’ secret cult.

Investigations revealed that the attack took place on the night of 10th October 2022, when the assailant who had earlier unsuccessfully tried to recruit Mr. Ernest Irabor and his friend Johnson Aigbe, into their fold.

It was further that some diehard members of the Black Axe confraternity had in 2005 staged an ambush and attacked Mr. Ernest Irabor, inflicting severe injuries on him for refusing to join their cult group. But luckily, he survived the attack.

The ‘Black Axe ‘ members who would take a ‘no’ for answer decided again to strike their victims who had just returned to the Benin City from South – Africa where he had spent six years.

The cultists brutally attacked Mr. Ernest Irabor with a battle axe, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons. Fully satisfied that Mr. Ernest Irabor was sufficiently given life threatening injuries, they left for the death.

Unfortunately, Mr. Ernest Irabor allegedly succumbed to the cold hands of death at an unnamed private hospital in Benin City a few hours after his admission to the hospital.

When contacted by our crime reporter, the image maker of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwanbueze said the case had been reported to the police, saying that the matter was being investigated by the homicide department of the police in the state.
